Why Xiaomi Phones Keep Blocking Binance APP

If you use a Xiaomi or Redmi phone, you've probably noticed that MIUI (now called HyperOS) is incredibly "enthusiastic" about security. Installing a third-party APK means going through multiple checkpoints. When downloading Binance APP, first the browser blocks it, then security scanning kicks in during installation, and even after scanning it might tell you "This app poses a risk — not recommended to install."

Don't panic. This is just standard MIUI behavior. As long as you downloaded the installation package from an official source, you're good to go. First, visit the Binance official website to register an account, and download the official Binance APP. Let me walk you through every blocking point.

Handling Blocks During Download

Browser warning when downloading

When downloading APK files with Xiaomi's built-in browser, it will pop up a "This file may pose a security risk" warning. Here's what to do:

  1. Tap Continue download or Download anyway in the prompt
  2. If that option isn't available, tap the three-dot menu in the upper right
  3. Go to Download manager and find the paused download task
  4. Long-press the task and select Continue

APK auto-deleted after download

Some MIUI versions automatically delete APK files flagged as "risky" after download. The fix:

  1. Open phone Settings
  2. Go to SecuritySecurity scan
  3. Tap the settings icon in the upper right
  4. Turn off "Auto-scan downloaded files"
  5. Re-download the APK file

Handling Blocks During Installation

First barrier: Unknown source restriction

MIUI blocks APK installations from outside the app store by default. You need to enable the permission first:

MIUI 12 and above / HyperOS:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to Privacy protection (or Security)
  3. Find Special app access (or Privacy protection)
  4. Tap Install unknown apps
  5. Find the browser you used to download the APK (e.g., Mi Browser or Chrome)
  6. Enable Allow from this source

MIUI 11 and below:

  1. Settings → Security → Unknown sources
  2. Toggle the main switch on

Second barrier: Security scanning

After enabling unknown source permissions, tapping the APK file to install triggers a mandatory MIUI security scan. This usually takes 10-30 seconds.

The scan results typically fall into three categories:

Scenario 1: Scan passed Just tap "Continue install" — simplest case.

Scenario 2: "This app poses a risk" warning This is the most common situation:

  1. Don't tap "Cancel" when you see the risk warning
  2. Look for Install anyway or Ignore risk and install at the bottom (may be small gray text)
  3. After tapping, you may need to enter your lock screen password to confirm
  4. Installation will then proceed normally

Scenario 3: "Installation prohibited" In rare cases MIUI completely blocks installation:

  1. Go to Settings → Security → Security scan
  2. Turn off "Check before installation"
  3. Re-open the APK file to install
  4. After installation, it's recommended to re-enable this option

Third barrier: Google Play Protect

If your Xiaomi phone has Google services installed, you might also get a Google Play Protect warning during APK installation:

  1. When "Blocked by Play Protect" appears, tap Install anyway
  2. Or temporarily disable Play Protect: Open Play Store → Profile → Play Protect → Settings → Turn off "Scan apps with Play Protect"

Post-Installation Settings

Notification permissions

Xiaomi phones are strict about app notifications, and may not grant push permissions to newly installed apps by default:

  1. Settings → Notifications & status bar → Notification manager
  2. Find Binance APP
  3. Enable Allow notifications
  4. Also enable "Lock screen notifications" and "Banner notifications"

Background running permissions

MIUI's battery-saving mechanism automatically kills background apps, which can cause missed notifications or frequent re-logins:

  1. Settings → Battery & performance → App battery saver
  2. Find Binance APP
  3. Select No restrictions

Or:

  1. Find Binance in the recent apps view
  2. Long-press the app card and select Lock (a lock icon will appear)

Auto-start permission

  1. Settings → App settings → Auto-start management
  2. Find Binance APP and enable auto-start

Differences Across MIUI/HyperOS Versions

MIUI 14 and HyperOS

Xiaomi's latest systems have some changes in security policy:

  • Installing unknown APKs requires waiting through a countdown (usually 60 seconds) before the install button becomes active
  • There's no way to skip this countdown — just wait
  • You may need to confirm multiple times during installation

MIUI 12-13

The security scanning on these versions is fairly consistent. Follow the steps outlined above and you should be fine.

MIUI 11 and earlier

Older MIUI versions have relatively fewer restrictions. After enabling unknown sources, you can usually install directly.

Common Issues

White screen when opening the app after installation

This occasionally happens on Xiaomi phones, usually due to system cache conflicts:

  1. Long-press the Binance icon on your home screen → App info
  2. Tap Clear dataClear all data
  3. Re-open the app

Installation stuck on "Installing"

This could be due to insufficient storage or high system resource usage:

  1. Close other running apps first
  2. Check storage — keep at least 300MB free
  3. Restart your phone and try again

"Signature inconsistency" error when updating

This means the installed version and the newly downloaded version have different signatures — the previously installed version may not have been official. You need to uninstall the old version first, then install the new one. Make sure you remember your account credentials before uninstalling.

How to Update the APP

The Xiaomi app store doesn't carry Binance APP, so there's no auto-update. Two ways to update:

  1. In-app update: Open Binance — you'll see a prompt when a new version is available, just follow the instructions
  2. Manual update: Re-download the latest APK from the official link and install it, which will overwrite the old version

Each time you update, MIUI will run through the security scan process again — just handle it the same way as the first installation.
